How do I choose between a three-season and a four-season build?

Three-season porch if used spring through fall, on a lower budget. Four-season if the household wants heated outdoor space through winter, or entertaining space across all seasons. Four-season roughly doubles the material and construction cost of three-season.

What screen material lasts the longest?

Standard fiberglass mesh handles most Ohio installs and lasts 10 to 15 years with normal exposure. Aluminum mesh handles higher UV and lasts longer, but shows the wire grid more visibly. Between the two, fiberglass is the default; aluminum earns the upgrade on porches with heavy sun exposure.

Can you convert an existing porch or deck into a screened porch?

Often yes. The framing, roof, and floor need to be sound and sized for the added screen frame load. On decks without a roof, we build the roof and the screen enclosure together as a single addition. For existing covered porches, we screen in most builds by adding screen frames, door assemblies, and floor pitch adjustments as needed.

Are motorized retractable screens worth the cost?

For most porches, no. Motorized retractable screens run three to five times the cost of standard fixed screen panels, and the motors are the first thing to fail. Retractable screens make sense when the porch needs to convert back to an open patio on demand, or where the view matters more than the screen 90% of the time. For most Cincinnati builds, fixed-screen panels offer better long-term value.
