Crafting the Perfect Outdoor Space
The homeowners in Loveland reached out to us with a clear vision: replace their aging deck with a durable, low-maintenance outdoor space that would stand up to Ohio’s weather. Their goal was simple but important—create a space that not only looked great but also provided reliable performance through every season.
Overcoming the Challenges
The project started with the removal of the old deck, but it didn’t take long to uncover an issue. The existing footers were no longer stable, so we had to dig fresh footers to give the new deck a solid foundation. This step laid the groundwork for a structure built to last.
Upon closer inspection, we found the joist spacing on the old deck wasn’t up to modern standards. We immediately addressed this by re-spacing the joists and reinforcing the frame with treated lumber, ensuring the deck would remain strong and steady for years ahead.
A key design element that the homeowners wanted was a double picture frame border around the perimeter. While this added some complexity to the project, the precision required to achieve those clean, sharp edges paid off, delivering a refined, modern look that enhanced the overall aesthetic of the deck.
The Completed Space
The finished deck, measuring 21ft x 14ft, seamlessly blends with the backyard, offering both style and functionality. The Trex composite decking provides a smooth, durable surface that stands up to the harsh elements of Ohio’s ever-changing weather, resisting fading, staining, and mildew. The Preferred Georgian aluminum railing frames the deck beautifully, offering both elegance and safety.
To provide shade and comfort during those warm, sunny days, we added two posts near the edge of the deck and installed D-rings to the exterior of the house, supporting a sun sail that creates a cool, inviting atmosphere.
With gates installed at the top of the stairs for added security, this outdoor space is now not only practical and stylish but also designed to offer years of enjoyment with minimal maintenance.
