A Fresh New Outdoor Space in Springboro
When the call came in from a Springboro family looking to replace their old, worn deck, they knew they needed something more. Their vision was simple but crucial: a deck that could stand the test of time while offering a stylish space to enjoy with minimal upkeep. After reviewing their options, we decided on Trex Enhance Natural composite decking and Preferred Georgian aluminum railing—a winning combination that would give them both reliability and beauty.
Tackling the Project Challenges
We started by removing the existing deck, which had seen better days. During the demolition, we quickly identified that the footers had failed over time. To ensure a stable foundation, we dug new footers to provide the necessary support for the new deck structure.
As we began framing, we discovered that the original joist spacing was too wide, which could have impacted the deck’s strength. We addressed this by adjusting the spacing and reinforcing the frame with premium treated lumber, ensuring the structure would be strong and secure for many years.
A key design request was a double picture frame border around the deck’s perimeter. This added extra complexity, but the result was well worth the effort, creating crisp, clean lines that elevated the overall design and gave the deck a custom, high-end finish.
The Completed Deck: A Space Ready for Any Season
The finished deck, measuring 439.5 sq ft, is a striking addition to the home. The Trex Enhance Natural composite decking provides a durable, low-maintenance surface that stands up to Ohio’s unpredictable climate, resisting fading, staining, and mildew. The Trex Enhance Natural fascia around the edges and down the staircases adds a polished, seamless look.
The Preferred Georgian aluminum railing wraps around the deck, offering both elegance and safety. Two gates were installed at the top of the staircases, adding extra security while maintaining the deck’s sleek design.
To make the space more comfortable during sunny days, we added two posts near the edge of the deck and installed D-rings on the house to support a sun sail. This added a perfect touch of shade, enhancing the outdoor experience.
