Rebuilding a Deck for Better Functionality and Durability
The homeowners in Milford contacted The Custom Deck Guys to rebuild their existing deck, which had worn down over time. They wanted a new deck that not only improved the overall appearance of their outdoor space but also addressed a functional issue with the step height from their back door.
Addressing the Challenges
The project began with the removal and disposal of the old deck, followed by clearing and preparing the area for the new build. One of the key challenges was ensuring the new deck would be a few inches higher than the previous one, reducing the step height and making it easier for the homeowners to access their backyard.
We also focused on the durability of the deck’s frame. To protect it from moisture and extend its lifespan, we applied joist tape to the top of the frame. This crucial step ensures that water won’t cause premature wood rot, improving the overall durability of the structure.
For the decking material, the homeowners chose Trex Enhance composite decking. This material is known for its low maintenance and long-lasting qualities. We also incorporated a picture frame border around the outer perimeter of the deck, adding a finished, refined look. The decking was secured using a hidden fastener system for a clean and seamless surface.
The Result: A Functional and Stylish Outdoor Space
The result is a 16’x14′ deck that combines practicality with style. The new height reduces the step height from the back door, making it easier to step out and enjoy the space. The Trex Enhance composite decking provides a durable, low-maintenance surface that will withstand the elements while maintaining its appearance.
We added Trex Enhance composite fascia around the outer perimeter of the deck, giving it a polished, cohesive look. The Preferred Georgian aluminum railing was installed around the deck, offering safety and security with a timeless black finish that complements the composite decking.
All necessary blueprints and permits were obtained, ensuring the project met all local regulations.
This new deck is now a functional, durable, and aesthetically pleasing addition to the homeowner’s outdoor living area, providing years of enjoyment with minimal upkeep.
